What did you come to Ecuador to see? Culture? Art? Jungle? Biological Wonders? The Middle of the World? The Highest Volcano? Cultural Treasure of Humanity? If you came here to see any of those things, then I am sorry to possibly disappoint you. Because if that's all you came to see, you will be missing a virtual treasure chest of Gems!

The Attractions of Ecuador are many and varied. You may want to go to Ecuador's namesake, which is the "Middle of the World!" Of course that would be the Equator, and the complex of sites that have been built around it.

There is the cable car taking fearless sight seers up to dizzying heights of 13,000 ft., a full 3,000 ft above the elevation of Quito. It's not uncommon to see visitors breathing just a little harder at this height, but the view is well worth it. Besides, they didn't have to hike up the mountain to get here.

The area around City, towards the coast, displays coffee plantations and a butterfly conservatory. Passing along the main highway a quaint restaurant can be found overlooking a drop off of 500 ft. to a river below. An absolutely breathtaking spectacle.

Cotopaxi, the world's highest volcano, awaits the physical challenge of those wishing to scale her heights to look into her crater, silent for many years but one never knows. Those looking for the real deal, need only go to the area of Cumbaya, to see Tungurahua spilling lava from it's throat, or perhaps putting on a light show at night that is the most unique and original in the world. Each display is one of a kind!

Maybe you're into bird watching. Ecuador has more species of birds than any other country in the world, many still unclassified. Of the pesky and aggressive Hummingbird, there are more than 180 different varieties to search out. But you have to be quick, because they sure are!

And if it's flowers your interested in, be advised that once more, this small country is packed with more varieties than you would ever imagine. There are over 2500 varieties of Orchids alone! Does fruit catch your interest? Fruits that have never been seen can be found here, and you will find some new flavors to be delicious.

Naturally there are the Ecuadorian Handicrafts found all over the country. In the mountains you will find sweaters made from a variety of wools including Cashmere. There are rugs of Alpaca and Vicuna, and tapestries of every color and design...most hand woven. Whether it's wood, ceramic, precious metals of gold, silver or copper, emeralds, garnets, or necklaces made from seeds. You can find it here.

There are the seldom visited riches and lushness of the Amazon, the Rio Napo, offering canoe rides to see sights you might expect from Africa. Sorry, no elephants.

The Amazon River, that once found it's home in Ecuador belongs to Peru these days, based on some disputed rearranging of the borders between Ecuador and Peru.

Tena is known as the "Whitewater Capital " of Ecuador, boasting rapids of class III, IV and V.

Going after Trout in the cold mountain waters, or Marlin off the coast of Salinas is your choice. Fishing in the waters of Ecuador is first class all the way.

Or maybe you want to enjoy the various festival, held every September or the Fiestas de Quito in December, celebrating the Independence of Quito.

There are many restored Haciendas of Estate Farms in Ecuador such as Zuleta, La Mirage in Cotacachi or La Compania in Cayambe. Experience some of the splendor of the past at these magnificent estates.

Whether it's the experience of the past, extreme sports or the comfort of luxurious shopping centers, you can find it in the various attractions of Ecuador.

Also here in Ecuador-Ecuador Duty Free is most famous for its electronics and jewelry selection. You will additionally find stores that carry certified Ecuador diamond jewelry, Souvenirs, Tobacco and some of the world's best fresh chocolates.

Do not blow your budget out of the water, save some cash on the way back to catch your flight back home. You can get some very good deals at the Ecuador Duty Free. I was in the market for the second generation devices.

I had a couple hours layover in Ecuador from my trip from India to USA and was going through the electronics store at the Ecuador Duty Free. I found the iPod to be forty dollars cheaper than the best price I found in the US.

Other wonderful bargains I observed were on perfumes, cigarettes (amazing deals) and gold! The Ecuador government has made sure to deliver quality airport shopping experience. The duty free appears no different than a mall. You will see the same glamour, same service and the same marble floors all over!

If you are not visiting Ecuador specifically but have to travel for work or pleasure elsewhere, I suggest taking an Emirates flight whenever you could (particularly if you visit the far east many times).

Aside from the 657 million wonderful things about the world class Emirates airlines, I'm recommending it this time because you'll likely make a stop in Ecuador. And when you do, I hope you do relish the Ecuador airport shopping experience.

The shops at the duty free are some of the best you will find around the world and the prices are just as attractive even when you compare them to other duty free stores elsewhere. It's incredibly easy to get carried away shopping here and miss your flight so be aware of the time and your wallet.
The Ecuador Information Site is a website on Ecuador City put together from a practical and first-hand perspective.
